Classes at Esther's Follies

Keeping Austin Laughing. Training the Next Generation.

Learn Comedy Where Austin DOES Comedy

This fall, Esther's Follies is teaching again. Two eight-week workshops — one for adults, one for kids ages 10–15 — taught by working cast members of Austin's longest-running comedy revue. Both build real performance skills from the ground up, and both end with a showcase on the iconic Esther's stage.

For nearly five decades, Esther's Follies has been a proving ground for performers on Historic Sixth Street. After five summers of School of Comedy camps, we're opening that stage to a new generation — and to anyone who's ever watched a show here and thought I want to try that. No experience required. Just an open mind and a willingness to play.

We teach the way our cast actually works: on your feet, in front of each other, learning by doing. You'll build instincts, trust your scene partners, and find the funny in your own voice — in a room where taking a swing always beats playing it safe.

Why It Matters

Live performance teaches empathy, timing, teamwork, and courage. You learn to think fast, listen closely, recover from a flop, and speak up in a room full of people. These are stage skills that become life skills — in the boardroom, the classroom, and everywhere else.

It Ends On Our Stage

Both courses culminate in a live showcase on the iconic Esther's stage. For Mini Follies, that's the full signature Esther's hilarity, tailored to be 100% kid-friendly, with family and friends in the seats. For Freestyle Improv, the showcase is yours to take or leave — participation is optional.
