Across eight weeks, students train in improv, character, timing, collaboration, and stage performance with insutruction from working members of the Esther’s Follies cast.
For nearly 50 years, Esther’s has been a home for Austin performers, comedians, magicians, musicians, and lovable weirdos. School for Fools opens that tradition to a new generation and aims to build upon Esther's historic legacy.

Esther’s Follies is ready to help the next generation of comedians make some waves! Step into the world of performance with longtime cast members Shaun Branigan and Ellana Breedlove—seasoned teachers and stage veterans who have spent over two decades bringing the iconic Esther's revue to life.
This high-energy, 8-week introductory workshop is designed to introduce young performers to essential acting skills and sharpen their comedy chops in a fun and supportive environment. Whether your young comic is looking to build their confidence, find their unique stand-up voice, or master a dynamic song and dance, each week Shaun and Ellana will guide them through the core principles of performance and liberate their creativity.
Students will even collaborate to build their very own "Mini Esther's Show"—including a custom comedy routine designed specifically for our famous 6th Street window stage! The course culminates with a live final showcase on the iconic Esther's stage, where family and friends can enjoy the same signature Esther's hilarity tailored to be 100% kid-friendly.
Esther’s Follies wants to see you make a splash! Dive into the world of Improv with cast member Ted Meredith—a respected instructor with over a decade of teaching experience at The Institution Theater, a guest lecturer at UT & Southwestern University, and a facilitator who has led numerous workshops for corporations, college students, and seasoned pros alike.
This 8-week accelerated introductory workshop is designed to build your foundational improv skills and explore new approaches to the form in a fun & supportive environment. Whether you are looking to sharpen your wit, boost your stage presence, or quiet your inner critic, each week Ted will guide you through the core principles of improv and liberate your creativity.
The course culminates with a showcase on the iconic Esther's stage (participation optional). Take the plunge!
