ESTHER'S FOLLIES INVITES YOU TO
A Reading by George Wilkerson
of excerpts from his memoir
(You Don't Know) The Half of It
Written by Bobbi Williams
SUNDAY, JUNE 3 / 2pm at ESTHER'S POOL [525 E. Sixth Street]
George was one of the original writers and performers with the Follies and was also the first Academic Dean of Austin Community College. (You Don't Know) The Half of It is the story of George and Bobbi, the latter in hiding until George was nearly 45 years old. The story of their lives is told by Bobbi who, though in the shadows for much of the time, was still a major influence. She takes us through George's childhood in Brooklyn, his college years, his time at ACC and at Esther’s, as well as his attempts at stand-up comedy and later as a Technical Writer for Shell Oil in Nigeria, Dell Computers back in Austin, and Radian International (an environmental engineering company). Although she is only able to 'escape' on a limited basis, Bobbi observes along the way as George struggles with accepting her—his "other self."
