"Energizer bunny factor non-stop entertainment."
Eve K. Sunnyvale, CA-
Billed as the quintessential Austin show, it's prat SNL, part improv,
part Vegas magic and off-Broadway. Lucky for them this combination results
in a fabulously hilarious production. For you bay area folks, it's similiar
to Beach Blanket Babylon minus the big hats. LOVED ESTHER'S FOLLIES! Best
laughter medicine in these gloomy times.
Highlights:
Energizer bunny factor non-stop entertainment: Most times you see a show,
there are lulls, here and there. This show started off strong with a fast
paced medley and just kept going and going. Laugh a minute doesn't even
portray accurately the continuous laughter it provided.
Variety: I expected comedy but didn't anticiapate the music and magic.
Pure unadultered fun. Magician with big overplayed smile even delivered
pretty impressive tricks. Even in the comedy skits themselves they touched
on a variety of current topics from politics to gender difference (man
and female remotes) to Martha Stewart (maxi craft art) and Cat in the
hat (one of the best.)
Feel: Quirky, fun, kitchy, and politcally incorrect, cheesy at times but
never fake or forced. Casual and comfortable, a small venue that could
be your friend's house.
Use of sidewalk: Brilliant idea to state part of the show outside with
the audience seeing it through the window as well as onlookers getting
a part as well. Also gives the opportunity for improv comments with the
pedestrians as the butt of a few jokes.
Evolving show: They change it every so often so return visitors can experience
fresh bits.
Lowlights:
If you're seated on the side by the exit you may get interrupted with
people exiting for a drink or bathroom break (probably one related to
the other.) This was truly was one of the highlights of my most recent
trip and I'm telling all my friends. I'd love to return! I don't remember
the last time I laughed that much. Thanks Esther's!!
