"I can't think of too many public things better than going out for dinner and then ending up here. Not only did I get to 1/2 Tango with Ray Anderson on stage, but he cut me in 1/2 in the show and I didn't even know it. NOW THAT'S A MAGICIAN!!!...So I obviously sat in the front row to be fortunate enough to be a part of the show itself. What fun! But I can assure you even if that never happened I would still be giving Esther's Follies 5 plus stars. I haven't laughed that hard since seeing Margaret Cho live people!" Holly A

"Audience participation is a huge part of the show, and if you are sitting in the two font rows and look or are dressed in a way that makes you stand out, you will most likely find yourself as part of the show. This is hilarious as you never know what personality is going to end up on stage. It's also funny to people watch and sometimes watch as the performers heckle homeless people who interrupt the show from outside (there back of the stage is home to a wall-sized window that is right on 6th street)."

Easily the most underrated comedic/entertaining experience in Austin. Unbelievable performances topical material and magic. Take some one there on a first date- if you don't love this place it's simple, move on.

Billed as the quintessential Austin show, it's prat SNL, part improv, part Vegas magic and off-Broadway. Lucky for them this combination results in a fabulously hilarious production. For you bay area folks, it's similiar to Beach Blanket Babylon minus the big hats. LOVED ESTHER'S FOLLIES! Best laughter medicine in these gloomy times.

"Esther's is a real gem for Austin."

Growing up in the Chicago area I was used to the comic genius of Second City and other improv acts there. Esther's is a real gem for Austin. Now only one of those traditional Keep Austin Weird places, but someplace that will make anyone laugh. Always searching for someplace to take out-of-towners, I always have this on my list! But last fall I hosted a quarterly meeting for our company in town and we went to Esther's for a team building event. Getting seats up front afforded some serious laughs at the expense of our co-workers. But to see some of the more conservatives in our group laughing with tears coming down their face, was priceless, and having passerbys on the street part of the show makes it more so. I'd put this on the top of any list for gotta see things and don't worry about being on 6th Street for those of you that may never venture down there, you may get lucky enough to catch a glimpse of Leslie from the safety of your seat.
